Vehicle Wrap Care Guide: Protect Your Investment
A professional vehicle wrap is an investment that can last 3–5 years or longer with proper care. This guide covers everything you need to know to keep your wrap looking new, including washing, storage, and damage prevention.
Hand Wash Only
Wash your wrapped vehicle by hand using a mild automotive soap and a soft sponge or microfiber cloth. Avoid automatic car washes — the brushes and high-pressure nozzles can lift edges, scratch the surface, or damage the laminate. If you must use a car wash, use a touchless rinse-only system.
Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Do not use solvent-based cleaners, abrasive compounds, or wax-based products on your wrap. These can discolor or damage the vinyl and laminate. Isopropyl alcohol can be used for spot cleaning bird droppings, tree sap, or fuel spills — apply with a soft cloth and rinse immediately.
Park Smart
Extended sun exposure is the number-one factor that shortens wrap life. Park in a garage or shaded area whenever possible. UV rays degrade vinyl over time, causing fading and brittleness. Vertical surfaces (sides and back) get less direct UV than horizontal surfaces (hood and roof).
Address Damage Quickly
If you notice a lifted edge, small tear, or bubble, have it repaired promptly. Small issues can often be fixed with a heat gun and roller. Left unattended, moisture can get under the vinyl and cause larger areas to fail. Perfect Fitz T-Shirts & Specialties offers wrap repair services for our clients.
When to Replace
Most wraps last 3–5 years depending on climate, sun exposure, and care. Signs it is time for a replacement include widespread fading, cracking, or lifting that cannot be repaired. The good news: removing an old wrap and applying a new one lets you refresh your branding without repainting your vehicle.
